Sales tax settings and exemptions

Open Finance > Setup > Tax. Check jurisdiction, product classification and customer exemptions before relying on calculated tax.

Set the jurisdiction

Enter Jurisdiction code when it must be explicit. Blank derives it from the sale's currency, which may be insufficient for currencies shared by jurisdictions.

Override a product's tax class

Leave blank for the built-in default class. Enter an override only for the product's correct classification; the jurisdiction still supplies the rate.

Record where you have nexus

Enter regions where you are registered to collect as comma/space-separated ISO 3166-2 codes, such as US-CA. Listed destinations use their region; others fall back to home jurisdiction. Blank permits configured destination jurisdictions.

Exemption certificates

Choose New certificate and enter Customer, Certificate number, Jurisdiction code, Tax type (VAT/GST/sales tax) and Validity window: start and optional expiry. Save. The exemption applies inside that window. This records details, not a file scan.

Revoking a certificate

Choose Revoke to stop future use while preserving earlier evidence. If it was never valid, correct affected earlier sales separately.

The sales tax report

Open Finance > Tax > Sales tax and select a period. Sales tax is not yet added to receipts or invoices: calculated tax is not customer tax collected, so this report stays empty.

What you get

Consistent tax classifications and an audit record of applied exemptions.
